How it works

  2. Transcribed on your device

    Whisper turns your voice into text right on your Mac or phone. The audio never leaves your device.

  3. Text lands where you are

    Dites pastes the text into the active field: email, chat, documents, any app. Optionally, Claude polishes it first.

Out of the box, Dites is real dictation. Add your Anthropic key and Claude turns what you say into text that's ready to send.

Install

Dites is distributed outside the app stores. Here's exactly what to expect, no surprises.

Mac

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Apple Silicon Mac recommended.

  1. Download Dites.dmg and drag Dites into your Applications folder.
  2. The app isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click “Open Anyway”.
  3. Allow Microphone access (so it can hear you) and Accessibility access (so it can paste into other apps).
  4. From then on, updates install in one click from inside the app.

Android

Android 12 or later.

  1. Download Dites.apk on your phone. The app isn't on the Play Store.
  2. Android asks you to allow installs from this source (your browser or file manager). Allow it, then install.
  3. Grant microphone access on first launch.
  4. Updates start from inside the app. Android asks you to confirm “Install” each time, and the first time, to allow Dites as a source.

FAQ

How much does it cost?

Dites is free. Polishing with Claude is optional: it uses your own Anthropic key, billed directly by Anthropic based on your usage. Without a key, you pay nothing. A ready-to-go plan with no key to set up is coming later.

What can I do without a key?

The essentials: on-device transcription, basic punctuation and capitalization, your personal dictionary and text shortcuts. A key adds filler-word removal, spoken corrections, formatting, styles, translation and summaries.

What happens to my data?

Your voice is transcribed on your device and the audio is never sent. Without a key, no data leaves your device. With your Anthropic key, only the transcribed text is sent to Anthropic for polishing. The optional account only syncs your settings: dictionary, shortcuts, prompts and styles.

Can I use GPT or another model?

Not yet: polishing runs on Claude, by Anthropic, today. More models, including GPT, are coming later.

Which languages does it understand?

Dites is built with French first. Transcription runs on Whisper, which also handles English and many other languages.

What do I need?

On Mac: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later; an Apple Silicon Mac is recommended for fast transcription. On Android: Android 12 or later. And a microphone.

What about iPhone?

An iOS version is in the works.

Why does macOS show a warning?

Dites isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch as a precaution. The steps to open it are in the Install section.
